Diabetes effects our body. It doesn't matter what type of diabetic we are- if we're insulin dependent, if we're struggling to maintain our glucose levels, or if we've had a hemoglobin A1-C under 6.0 for years! Diabetes is a chronic illness, which is condition that lasts at least one year, that requires ongoing medical attention, limits various forms activities, etc. Diabetes is grouped with heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure for what a chronic illness is.

A Diabetic's doctors and care team's job is to continue to monitor us, and to push us to insure we are taking care of ourselves. This is because any damage done to the body will have long term and short term effects to how healthy and happy a person is. This type of hard work simply doesn't happen overnight. And just because you have changed your lifestyle for the better, doesn't mean years of neglect will simply go away.

The National Center for Chronic Disease & Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) states that Diabetes is one of the leading drivers to the Nation's $3.5 trillion in annual health care costs. It costs to keep up with your health- time, money, emotions, friends, and even family. No one that deals with a chronic illness is immune to this hardship.

Life with a chronic illness can be challenging. Be sure to stay tuned with more ways diabetes effects us, and ways to learn to deal with our diabetes in a healthy way!

Until next time,
